“Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or
persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written ‘For your
sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For
I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither
the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor
anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our
Lord.” - Romans 8:35-39
I’ve been hearing this a lot lately. I was intrigued because I've only ever focused on the last verses; this weekend I’ve really only heard verse thirty-seven. It’s pretty crazy the way God does that – speaks different things
clearly sometimes and other things clearly at other times.
The word “conquer” is pretty legit already:
·
To be victorious; win.
·
To defeat or subdue by force.
·
To gain possession or control of.
·
To overcome; defeat or surmount
All that stuff IS great. But, the Bible says we are MORE
than conquerors – My favourite definition was that even came *close* to
defining that was: “To gain a surpassing victory.” We have no right to be that
superior, it’s only through HIM who loved us; our relationship with Him has
given us victory over death!
Another favourite definition was: “We are pre-eminently
victorious”
Pre-Eminently:
Surpassing all others; very distinguished in some way.
Right now, I am completely and totally in awe of Jesus Christ and His all-consuming love!!!(:
